Footers, my Malamute |
 |
My companion, my pal, my Alaskan Malamute. He listens to my silly stories, my complaints and my pains. He cocks his head to the side as if he understands. He listens to my off key singing with the car music and occaisionally adds a Woo. He gets excited when its time for a snack, even when its only an apple or crackers and cheese. There is always hope that we might share my snack, particularly the cheese. When I ask him to give up his bone, he does and lets me pretend to chew on it. He looks worried that I might eat it all and grins as I hand it back. How can I not be generous, when he is so generous. He gets excited when we take a walk to the mail box or we go to town shopping. As we enter the Post Office he adds a WooWoo, knowing the Postmaster has a cookie if he makes his presence known. If we visit the Hardware store, he throws out his chest, lifts his head a little higher and adds a prance to his step. How could I not be proud? At the Feed Store he becomes silly and goofy trying out all his tricks without commands hoping to get a hand out. He waits patiently in the driver’s seat while I run through the Grocery Store smiling as I roll out with my cart. If I stop by for a Cafe Mocha and his Oatmeal Raisin cookie, he sits ever so quietly waiting for the small bag to come through the window. His ears point skyward and his eyes twinkle. He holds his sit knowing I will not open the bag, if he misbehaves.
What a Guy?

Talking Bear, my Girl

Oh so smart. Oh so clever. She can learn a new trick in minutes or discover an unlatched gate in 10 seconds. Her agility skills far surpass mine, but I hope to catch up. Of course it helps that she is a show-off. We watched a small dog roll over upon command. She looked at me, I nodded and she dropped and rolled 5 times and snapped to a sit. Of course, she may not always perform on my command. Did I mention stubborn and strong-headed. That’s her! She has selective hearing and the word “Come” or “Sit” are often spoken in a foreign language. I obviously speak more clearly when I have a cookie. And friendly, she smiles at each person, in hopes they will extend a hand. It is hard to walk down the street without stopping every 10 feet. For kids she has a special smile and a Woo. Her favorite times are showing off in front of a classroom of kids. Even in the heat, she plays dead for the 20th time and loves it. She loves to hear the kids laugh and knows when it is all over all the kids will encircle her and love her. Bear will always be my favorite; she was first and she is so cute.
